Baghban (2003)

This movie has some big actors/actresses such as; Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachan, Hema Malini and Paresh Rawal. The story starts with showing Raj Malhotra (Amitabh) and Pooja's (Hema) family which consists with four sons who are; Ajay, Sanjay, Rohit and Karan. Raj and Pooja also have adopted a boy, Alok (Salman) who they have financially helped with school and all he needed too. Their four are settled down professionally, three of them have gotten married and youngest son is still single. At the beginning of the movie it shows how Raj Malhotra decides to retire from his job and enjoy his retirement with his family. But to his discontent, his children are not hoping and wishing for the same since they do not want to be burdened with taking care of their elderly parents who have given them nothing but care, love and everything they ever needed at both prosperous and difficult times. When the parents ask their children where they should stay first, they all aren't sure what to say to them. Then they all get together and decide to play a trick on them which I cannot expand much on since it would ruin much of the story. The elderly couple get to a point where they are forced to get comfort and love from strangers who become their good friends along the road. When the sons and their wives play this cruel and dirty trick to them, after some time they decide to ignore their children since they are not receiving the love and care they should be getting in return. This movie will move you because of its amazing story and lesson learned as well.

As we all know and have seen the amount of sacrifices our parents make for us each and every single day but we can never repay them for everything they do for us. The main lesson learned here is how sometimes your own blood may not show care and love for you but that only goes to show how sometimes maybe the blood isn't as thick. Also, showing how sometimes the strangers we meet along the way could show more love than our blood has ever shown. The other big lesson taught in this film is that no matter how much your life has changed or independent you have become, you shouldn't treat your parents in any cruel or rude way. The story really revolves around Amitabh and Hema's love story and how there love for one another is tested throughout the middle of the movie. The music in this movie is very joyful, little emotional and makes you want to get up and dance. This movie may have some downs to it, but those are over looked since this movie had the best directing and amazing message to it too. I would honestly give this movie a 9.5/10, since its one you can watch over and over, best message and who isn't in the mood to watch a good movie with a good star cast like this!

Jab We Met (2007)

This movies starrs the amazing on screen jodi with the best chemistry; Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan. We have seen them together in other movies such as: Fida, Chup Chup Ke and 36 Chine Town. In this movie, Shahid plays the role of Aditya, who is depressed after the death of his father and by being ditched by his girlfriend. Then this Aditya, the business man who boards a train where he meets Geet (Kareena), who is actually returning home from her trip to Bhatinda. Then the train stops at Bar nagar where he doesn't want to go anymore and Geet follows him, which results in both of them missing their train. After they get a train to Ratlam, but miss the train again and make it to Bhatinda at last. Along their long journey to Geet's home, they learn a lot about each other and get to know one another. When they get to Geet's home, Aditya meets her sister Roop and Geet's soon to be husband Manjeet Mann. But before the engagement can happen, Geet convinces Manjeet that she wants to marry Aditya not him. After this part is where there is a twist in the plot and it gets interesting because there is another man in her life. Then at the end is where we find out an unlikely pair fall in love and the ending is something I loved.

In this movie, there is both a lot of comedy and romance tied together since this movie is a romantic comedy type movie. I really loved how Kareena Kapoor played her role in this movie, as this fun loving, care free and funny girl who is very positive too. She also has a way of changing Shahid's character's perception in life and at love as well. The music in this movie was also a big hit, the big hit songs for this movie were in my opinion; 'Yeh Ishq Hai' (above) and 'Nagada Nagada' and other songs like 'Mauja hi Mauja' was very well sung too. It is one of those movies which is pleasant, comedic and romantic flick. Also this movie is uplifting, entertaining, very funny and dramatic too. One of those movies which can't be missed, has the best songs, direction by the director and best plot too. This movie in my opinion, would be given an 8.5/10, one of those heart warming endings, funny but comedic plot and best songs to dance too and sing. This movie is one of those funny and loving stories which shows that it may take a while to know who your true lover is but the right two people will be together in the end. The movie is a fun loving type movie which as many say has a simple love story to it, which is the major aspect that most people love about it and make it more fun and entertaining to watch. The message or lesson I learned from this film is how you do not always need an 'out of the world' or over budget film to make it to the top or to have the best movie, you can use all the things around you, not be over budget, have a good story and the right actors to play the roles.

Queen (2014)

This movie follows around the life of Rani, role played by Kangana Ranaut who is a girl from Delhi and lives with a conservative type of family. She lives in a world where her parents decide everything for her and her life will turn out to be. She's a very different, fun loving and care free girl. At the start of the movie, Rani is rejected and ditched by her fiance, Vijay, role played by Rajkumar Rao, who in my opinion played the role right maybe could have been little improved overall. When he ditches her day before the wedding, he does not give her a proper reason, he just says 'I can't marry you'. Then after going home, Rani decides that she will still go on her honeymoon but alone. She travels to Europe, then meets new people and this is how she finally discovers her true identity. The rest of the movie follows around her journey to find her true self and get over her cancelled wedding as well. This is one movie where it shows how a new actress like Kangana, does not need any male famous actor to support her in this movie.

In this movie, shows how a bollywood movie does not always need romance in it to make it successful in the film industry. Kangana really showed her amazing acting talent in this movie, since this is one of the best films with her and best performance by her in this movie. The supporting characters did their job in the best way too and helped out in their own way. A big shout out and kudos to the director, Vikas Bahl who did an amazing and tremendous job with this movie. It never failed at any point or move your eyes away from the screen. Also, the music by Amrit Trivedi is a plus to this movie and added more to the movie as it is. The biggest shout out and brilliant acting award should go to Kangana for this movie. The plot overall shows how an obedient and shy girl becomes into a confident and open minded in different ways after her journey. I would give this movie a 10/10, there was absolutely no flaws in the movie and never fails to impress me whenever I watch and whoever I watch it with tends to usually love it and give good views on it.

Dil Hai Tumhara (2002)

The few main actors/actresses in this movie include; Preity Zinta, Rekha, Mahima Chaudhry, Arjun Rampal, Jimmy Shergill and Alok Nath. The story follows Shalu(Preity) and Nimmi (Mahima) , who are half sisters, have same father but different mothers. Shalu, is in need of employment gets a job with Khanna Industries, but uses some false information to get the job. She meets with the owner's son, Khanna's son Dev (Arjun) and she believes he is a driver for the company, that's how she treats him. She takes him on a journey to help the farmers in their community and in this process they fall in love. There is an attempt made to kill Dev Khanna by their company's management who are doing this for their own selfish reasons. Then Shalu's sister, Nimmi (Mahima) rescues him but she herself gets injured and Dev takes care of her, making her think he's in love with her. Then she tells her mom, Sarita that this is what her and Dev both want, not knowing for sure if Dev loves her back. Then when Sarita takes this marriage proposal to Dev's father, she sees that Shalu has been flirting with Dev. This is when Sarita presents Shalu with an ultimatum which will force her to let her sister Nimmi marry Dev, who she loves a lot.

In this movie, there is the genre of romance, comedy and a lot of drama from beginning to end, which is mainly family drama but becomes into business and family drama together. I would recommend this movie to viewers who like these family type and romance stories tied together. This movie also revolves around values and emotions as well, teaches some values which should be considered important. There are some very emotional scenes to the end, they will make you tear up and this leads to a good but short ending to it. In this movie, you will also see how these two sisters, are more seen as blood sisters than half sisters. They do not let a man come between their sisterly relationship, seeing how both were willing to sacrifice their happiness and love for one another. I would give this movie a 7.1/10, since it was a good family type story and there was an added romance story as well, which for me personally worked well but could be improved a little. Overall, this movie may not be the best it should be given a shot, Rekha and Preity were the best in this movie, since the story did mainly revolve around their mother-daughter relationship.

Dhoom 3 (2013)

The movie 'Dhoom 3' starrs Aamir Khan, Jackie Shroff, Uday Chopra, Abhishek Bachan and Katrina Kaif, but the main plot of this movie is around Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif has a small role in his story. The main plot of this movie is how when Sahir's (Aamir) father isn't able to pay back his loan which he took from the bank, Western Bank of Chicago, he decides to commit suicide. A little background to his father, is that he was a circus entertainer and trained in magic. Sahir being his son, learned all these acrobats and magic tricks from him. Sahir decides to take revenge on this bank. He does this by robbing these same branches many times of the bank. He does this in an interesting manner and audience cannot tell how he is able to do all this on his own, But there is also a twist to this story which is found out by the audience close to half way into the movie. In order to capture him, they send two cops from India, Jai Dixit (Abhishek) and Ali Akbar (Uday). They have this manipulative plan to capture this robber and to see how it ends you have to watch the movie and see how it all unfolds.

This movie in my opinion, was different than the other two Dhoom movies since the twist in this movie is what brings the whole movie to life. Even though Katrina has a minor/supporting role in this, she still plays a somewhat major role in relation with Aamir Khan. Also, the songs in this music are very upbeat such as 'Kamli' and the song 'Malang'. The song 'Kamli' is sung by the amazing female artist Sunidhi Chouhan who always sings the right tunes and knows how to please the audience with her melodious voice. Another song titled 'Tu Hi Junoon', which is a more romantic song, it is sung by Mohit Chouhan who has this very delightful and soothing voice. I would give this movie a 7.8/10 since it was totally different than the other Dhoom movies, with its new and interesting story and it touches peoples hearts with its emotional touch to it. The few genres in this movie include; little romance, drama and little comedy as well with both Aamir Kahn and the two cops, Abhishek and Uday. I would highly recommend watching this movie, not only for people that have seen the other two Dhoom movies but for anyone who would be in the mood for a crazy action packed thriller.

Hasee Toh Phasee (2014)

This film is revolved around the relationship between Nikhil (Siddharth) and Meeta (Parineeti) and starts when he is re-introduced to Meeta after a 10 year gap. In the beginning, it starts from their childhood days and how both of them did not fit in with their families. Nikhil wants to marry Meeta's sister Karishma who he does propose and gets engaged to. But a week after the engagement he has to prove to Karishma that he's worthy enough to marry her and to please her father as well, who also doesn't exantly approve of him and his ways. Nikhil and Meeta meet once again and to please his fiancee once again, he decides to let Meeta stay at his flat that is above his house. Once she starts staying at his house then this is where these two, Nikhil and Meeta start to become closer to one another. The time of her staying at their house, she begins to get close with the family members and somehow also open up to each other too. We get to see how there seems to be some changes once these two start to spend a lot of time together, which makes the story more interesting and dramatic as well.

The music is one of the best in this movie, especially the song titled 'Punjabi Wedding Song' since it makes you want just get up and dance to the beat of it. Also, other songs like 'Ishq Bulava' and 'Zehnaseeb' are good romantic and slow type songs. The song 'Punjabi Wedding Song' is sung by the familiar voice of Sunidhi Chohan. Another song like 'Ishq Bulava' is sung by another famous female singer, Shipra Goyal. I would say personally 'Punjabi Wedding Song' and 'Manchala' are my favourite songs but the rest is up to the audience and what they prefer. The few genres in this movie include; comedy, drama and romance. In the midst of the story in this movie, you will see how some relationships unfold and the strength of the bonds of these relationships is tested and as always love triumphs all. The rating I would give this movie would be 8/10, since I can keep watching it over and over, can never get tired of these two and their chemistry in this movie. Overall, it was a good movie from start to finish and never got distracted or bored while watching it.

Dostana (2008)

In this movie, it has John Abraham, Abhishek Bachan and Priyanka Chopra as the main lead actors and Bobby Deol has a small role in this film, more like guest appearance type. The story follows two friends, Kunal (John) and Sameer/Sam (Abhishek) who in order to secure their apartment, they decide to become a gay couple. The character of Kunal, he has a job of being a photographer and Sameer plays a male nurse. Their roommate is no other than Priyanka Chopra, who plays role of Neha and she lives in Miami with her aunt, after the passing of her parents. Then both Sameer and Kunal fall for her and decide to win over her heart. In the mix of convincing everyone and themselves to be a gay couple, they also try to win her heart. Then Neha decides to introduce her gay friends to her departing gay boss, Murli, played by Boman Irani and falls in love with her new boss, Abhimanyu Singh. In the second half of the movie, Sameer's mother makes an appearance who doesn't approve of their relationship, since she doesn't like the concept of homosexuality and doesn't see it as right.

One interesting fact to know is how this is the first film in India whose main plot is based on a gay or homosexuality relationship but in a comic sense. But one movie in India till this day that took homosexuality seriously is the movie 'Girlfriend' (2004). The first half was funny but little boring as well since in the second half that is where things start to get interesting and there is a twist in the plot but ending is something to look forward to. As well, the music in this song was a hit especially the two big songs titled, 'Desi Girl' (above) and 'Maa Da Laadla'. I really did love the acting of Abhishek and John as a gay couple, they did it in an amazing and entertaining way for the audience to watch. Also, these both suited their roles in their jobs as well, photographer and other as nurse. Kirron Kher plays her role as Sameer's mother amazingly and in entertains the audience with her acting in the song 'Maa Da Laadla'. I would give this movie a 6.5/10, if the first part of the movie was more funny would be better and I think even though there was a twist in the film they should've added more maybe. It's still a must watch movie since it will bring the most laughs in practically most of the film there might be few moments but overall its a comedy type film.

Piku (2015)

The two main actors in this movie are: Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachan and Irrfan Khan. But the story is mainly around a father-daughter relationship between father Bhaskor (Amitabh) and daughter Piku (Deepika). This movie is a cute and emotional comedy on the father daughter relationship b/w an aging father and his young daughter, dealing with each others different lifestyles and have conflicting ideologies which lead to many conflicts. Throughout their journey, they learn that they are one another's emotional support and nothing less. The role of Irrfan Khan is that he is a manager of a taxi company, who is the only cab driver left to take the father-daughter their Bhaskor's first home, which is in Calcutta and they go to visit, since he does not want to sell it. Irrfan himself has to drive them to Calcutta, since all his other cab drivers are fed up of Piku's stubborn-ness and her temper issue. There are many genres in this film such as; drama, comedy and emotional/sad-drama type movie. In this movie, you will see how this journey changes the relationship between the father and daughter, how they both learn to get along and understand one another.

This movie, in my opinion should be given a 10/10, since overall in this movie nothing was missing, had good songs, amazing story, best actors for the role and really showed the father daughter relationship in the best way. The songs in this movie such as the 'Piku' or the 'Journey' song really suited the message and story of this song. The main lesson I learned personally is how we should learn to cope with our parents be it our mothers or fathers, since no matter what situation you get into they are always looking out for us. They might not show their love for us in the best or nicest way, but that just means they have different ways of showing it and that's just their love for you, we need to understand that. The acting by all three; Irrfan, Amitabh and Deepika is amazing and they suited their characters in the best way. Amitabh and Deepika showed the true father daughter relationship of how they start out not in the best way, but they do change and even though it took a journey like that to understand it. This movie is one of those must watch movies, not to be missed and might leave you in tears.

We Are Family (2010)

This movie has Kajol, Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor as the main actors/actresses, since the story follows around their lives. This story involves around Maya (Kajol), who is separated from her husband Aman (Arjun Rampal) and lives with her three children: Aaliya, Ankush and Anjali. Aman is in love with his girlfriend, Shreya Arora and she is a fashion designer. When he tries to introduce her to her children and ex-wife things do not go as planned. After that incident, his ex-wife and children start to dislike her. When Maya is diagnosed with cervical cancer, she starts to decide who would be a good step-mom for her children and from there things start to change. This movie has some very sentimental moments which will have you tearing up. If you are one to watch these tearful and family-oriented movies then its a must watch for you family movie lovers.

This movie's casting, songs and story line for me was a plus since my favourite actress is Kajol and I loved Kareena's acting in this movie too. The songs in this movie are very emotional but there are some which are more upbeat as well and this could either be good or bad depending on the viewer's choice in songs. I have heard both good and bad reviews of this movie, but I would still give it a chance mainly because of Kajol's acting, story and songs too. The ending of this movie was good but as you guys might have noticed I pay special attention to the endings, this one wasn't the best since there could have been more added to it like the whole family not only some members. I would give this movie a 7/10 because of the good casting, average story but worked out and good emotional and upbeat songs. Also, the genres in this movie include; drama, little comedy and some romance, to add in this movie is a family-oriented movie. Overall, even though this movie has been given some critical reviews, they shouldn't stop you from watching the movie. I would say give this movie a chance, think outside the box and if you do not like it then maybe you can recommend it to someone who likes these type of stories.

Bollywood Movie Time- Why did I start it?

I started this blog because I have always watched many bollywood/hindi movies from the start and had this passion or favouritism towards them. In a sense how this blog started is very random because it started by me and one of my best friends talking about the old and new hindi movies. Then my friend was surprised as to how I have watched most of these movies then she is the one who gave me the idea of starting the blog and see how it goes. I need to give her credit as well because I didn't think I would be writing a blog on these movies but I'm still seeing how it goes since the blog is in a trial run. This blog was also started since I thought why not give reviews for both old and newer movies as a side thing for myself but now I have been adding more.

Now, this blog has become more than something small for me since I pay more attention to little things like which songs I'm adding to them because they need to be appealing to the audience as well. In my opinion, the classic hindi movies cannot be replaced but there are a few new movies such as Brothers or Hamari Adhuri Kahani which may be one of those movies you could watch again and again. Another few movies which can be watched more than once are; Dil Dhadkne Do, Holiday, Dhoom 3, PK and Mardaani. Along with the films I have listed and made reviews for, some of the actors I love in mostly every movie they do are; Sharukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Siddharth Malhotra to list a few. Some actresses I love for their acting from the start and still do are; Rani Mukherjee, Kajol, Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma, Shradha Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra.

Also, the newer movies being made today aren't as good as the classic movies and some of the story lines of these movies are being played out now. They need to make more movies with new story lines which will surprise the audience and there will be better reviews for them as well. Another way to make them better would be to add songs which go well with the theme of the movie and the actors/actresses in the movie. Some new movies are doing well, but there are some improvements which need to be made. On the other hand, my two favourite jodi's in hindi movies are Sharukh Khan & Kajol and Preity Zinta & Sai Ali Khan. I would like it if my viewers of this blog could give me feedback, support and spread the word of my blog. I would like to ask if there are any movie reviews anyone would like me to do, you can write them in any of the comments or message me privately.

If there are any changes or improvements I could make to the blog, you can also write that as well in the comment box. I would like to thank all my viewers who have been sharing my reviews and helping spread the word of my blog. I am new to this, but I hope by adding a variety of movies it will become more popular as time goes by. The more feedback I get the more I can help others in choosing good and well directed movies to watch, maybe more than once like the classics.

Thank you! :)

Brothers (2015)

This new movie 'Brothers' stars Akshay Kumar, Siddharth Malhotra and Jackie Shroff as the few main characters. The movie involves the story of two estranged brothers and how they face off each other in a mixed martial arts tournament. Jackie Shroff plays the role of the father of these two brothers and in this movie also shows flashbacks as to how the fight came upon and why they do not get along. Another actor in this movie, is Jacqueline Fernandez who plays the role of Akshay's wife and plays her role very well as a supporting actress. This movie is very emotional since it goes to the core reason why the brothers haven't been getting along. The director of this movie Karan Malhotra, has shown these emotional scenes in the best way possible and these actors did a brilliant job in playing their roles to the point and getting the message to the audience.

After watching this movie, you will learn how keeping any type of grudge has major consequences to it and should always think before taking any big step, it can leader to either positive or negative circumstances. It teaches you how family always comes first no matter how the relationships are between some family members, should always be there for one another. Another major lesson it teaches is to always forgive your family members, since no matter what they will always be there for you. I would give this movie a 9/10, it had everything from amazing acting by Siddharth, Akshay and Jackie, emotional scenes which were acted out well, good background music and good story to it as well. One thing in my opinion which was lacking, was in the ending of this movie since the ending was a bit too quick and there should have been a scene or two added to it.

Student of the Year (2012)

The movie stars Siddharth Milhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt as the main characters, these three are newbies in the acting industry. This movie is directed by the amazing and marvelous director Karan Johar, who also directed and produced the classics KKHH and K3G. The story of this film involves the tragic start of Dean Yoginder Vashisht (Rishi Kapoor) fallen ill, this brings together few students from his final year at St. Theresa's College and they all come to his side during this tragedy. During this time, they all reminisce and remember all the memories from their final year at St. Theresa's. One major event was the 'Student of the Year' competition, which created problems within this friend circle which included the three main characters listed above. Also, this movie shows how it somehow has a similar story to KKHH, since two guys fall for the same girl and in KKHH, it was the same but two girls fell for one guy. In this movie, one of the lovers and the girl do not realize they have feelings for one another. This movie may seem similar to KKHH, but there are many differences and this movie did not live up to the acting and movie altogether since that movie is a classic which cannot be replaced.

This movie, in my opinion had a lot going for itself, since it had new comers like Alia, Siddharth and Varun, good story, not bad music but some things in this movie did seem to be lacking. The music was a hit especially the song titled 'Disco Deewane' and another song titled 'Ishq Wala Love' sung by few singers like Neeti Mohan, it captured the romance between the two couples. The few genres in this movie would be; comedy, romance and drama as well. It had a good ending but once again I think it could have had some better scenes and more could have been added to the story itself of the movie. In my opinion, this movie can be watched only twice maybe more, if it pleases you but I really do think more could have been added to add more like a bit more comedy and another twist to the plot would have helped. Overall, I would give this movie a 6.5/10, since the ups of this movie were; the music, acting by the new actors/actresses, comedy and the dialogue as well.

Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999)

The movie is about three brothers who are played by; Salman Khan, Mohnish Bal and Saif Ali Khan and the elder played by Mohnish is a step brother in this family. Both Prem and Vinod and the married daughter, Sangeeta are the children of the second wife, Mamta and she hates the eldest son since he is from her husband's first wife. Mamta and her daughter's father-in-law together scheme on how to get the estate and wealth in her son's names. In the process of doing all this, they get the eldest son and his wife thrown out of the house. Also, when Mamta thinks her sons approve of her plan of taking control of the estate and finances, she learns that they actually do not approve of it at all. After this the whole scene changes and there are some very emotional scenes as well. This is one of those classical family type movies and can be watched by the entire family.

This movie teaches a lesson on the importance of family and the value of it as well. The main other lesson it teaches is how family should always stick together no matter what problem they have to face, they should always face it together. This along being a classical family movie, it's also contains, drama, and comedy. The comedy scenes are mainly by Saif and Karishma (love interest of Saif) and Salman plays a more quiet role in this movie alongside his love interest Sonali Bendre (Preeti). The romantic scenes are played and shown by all three couples, but mainly by Tabu and Mohnish, since they play the best role of a husband and wife throughout the whole movie. Overall, I would give this movie an 8.5/10, it had everything from drama, emotional scenes, good songs, comedy and some romance to add in. This is one of those movies you can never get tired of because it is not one of those cliche type movies and has a real moral to it. I want everyone to just remember the meaning of the title of the movie 'Hum Saath Saath Hain', meaning that 'We Stand United'.
